This artifact is an assignment where we had to take a case study and create an IEP summary for this student. The summary is designed to provide an understanding of the student’s unique learning needs, accommodations, and goals. This artifact aligns with the Maine Common Core Teaching Standards, Standard #2 – Learning Differences: “The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that allow each learner to reach his or her full potential.” The IEP summary is a helpful tool for making sure lessons are designed to fit the student’s unique learning style, so they can succeed in the classroom. It pulls together all the key details about the student’s needs, strengths, and accommodations in one easy-to-access spot. This makes it simple for teachers and team members to stay on the same page and create a learning environment that really works for the student.
Reflecting on this artifact, I can further say that I have developed a deeper understanding of how IEPs can be effectively implemented to support students’ learning. By looking through the IEP it has expanded my knowledge of differentiated instruction, highlighting the importance of creating equitable learning experiences that accommodate the diverse abilities of all students. Moving forward, by completing this assignment, it has enhanced my future practice by equipping me to create inclusive classroom environments where students can learn, and I can adapt instruction to promote success for all students.
