For this artifact, we prepared for an Interprofessional Simulation regarding a child struggling with behavior, literacy, and home life issues. We worked with a group of students from a Social work class and an OT class. As a team, we worked out an overall plan for the 1st-grade student, Sammy, where we used the skills we had learned to make Sammy’s struggles hopefully somewhat easier for him. We had two planning sessions before the simulation where we discussed what exactly we thought the simulation was going to be like and how we each wanted one of our goals to be accomplished. Within the reflection, I go into more detail about how I thought the simulation went and what I wish I/we did differently or what I believe I/we did well in. When looking at the Maine Common Core Teaching Standards, I can see that Standard #2 Learning Differences aligns almost perfectly with this article. “The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that allow each learner to reach his or her full potential.”

Furthermore, I believe this assignment will greatly benefit me in the future, as it provided valuable experience in understanding the dynamics of a meeting regarding Sammy’s struggles that he was dealing with both at home and school. Exploring the various factors contributing to a child’s challenges allowed me to grasp effective strategies that I can put into play in the future. Completing this simulation makes me more aware and understand how to handle similar situations in my future classroom. This assignment has helped me expand my pedagogical knowledge and has helped me improve my future practice as I become an effective educator.
